Snippet Below:

Thomas Edison was the seventh and last child of Samuel Ogden Edison Jr. (1804–1896, born in Marshalltown, Nova Scotia ) and Nancy Matthews Elliott (1810–1871, born in Chenango County, New York).

Thomas Edison started his career selling candy, newspapers and vegetables on the trains from Port Huron to Detroit.

At 13 he started making a profit of $50 a week which he spent on electrical equipment and chemicals used for experiments.

Edison's major innovation was the establishment of an industrial research lab in 1876.

Inventions:

Thomas Edison started his career as an inventor in Newark, New Jersey, but his invention that gained him wider notice was the Phonograph in 1877; the Phonograph recorded sound.

In 1878, Edison began working on a system of electrical illumination, in the hopes he could replace gas lighting. Thomas Edison did not create the light bulb but tried to perfect it, the light bulb was actually created in 1840 by British scientist, Warren de la Rue, who developed an efficient light bulb using a coiled platinum filament.

The reason why the lightbulb didn't take off when Warren invented it was because of the high costs that's why Thomas Edison wanted to perfect it.
